3. AI Processing & Anthropic

TAi Grader uses the Anthropic Claude API to provide AI-assisted grading and feedback. When a teacher submits a student assignment for AI grading, the text content of that submission is sent to Anthropic's API servers for processing.

Important disclosures about AI processing:

  • Anthropic processes submission data under their commercial Data Processing Addendum (DPA).
  • Per Anthropic's commercial terms, submission data is not used to train Anthropic's models.
  • Anthropic does not retain submission content beyond the processing window.
  • Submissions are sent over TLS-encrypted connections. No student names or personally identifiable information beyond submission text is included in the API request.

Teachers are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate institutional authorization before submitting student work to AI-assisted grading tools. We recommend reviewing your school or district's AI use policy prior to use.

4. FERPA Compliance

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, protects the privacy of student education records. TAi Grader is designed to operate in compliance with FERPA.

TAi Grader's FERPA position:

  • TAi Grader operates as a "school official" with a "legitimate educational interest" as defined under FERPA (34 CFR § 99.31(a)(1)), when used under a valid agreement with an educational institution.
  • Student education records processed through TAi Grader are used solely to perform grading assistance services on behalf of the teacher and institution.
  • We do not disclose student education records to any third party except as required by law or as described in this policy.
  • We maintain reasonable security measures to protect student education records from unauthorized access, disclosure, or destruction.

Teacher responsibility: Teachers using TAi Grader are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate authorization from their institution to use third-party educational technology tools with student data.
